1. The Prayer of Agreement
Matthew 18:19-20 says, '...If two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by my father in heaven. For where two or more are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.' Jesus makes it clear in these verses that unity is very important and that, when believers gather together in agreement to pray, things will happen. Take Jesus at his word and pray in agreement with your brothers and sisters in Christ.
2. The Prayer of Faith
The Prayer of Faith, or the 'Petition Prayer', is what most people think of when they hear the word 'prayer'. Mark 11:24 says, 'Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.' The Prayer of Faith is a prayer between you and God, asking for something. When praying you must have faith and believe that God will hear and answer your prayer. Hebrews 11:1 says, 'Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.' Faith is vital and Jesus refers to faith all the time in his teachings and healings. Faith is fundamental to the Christian walk, so fundamental that Hebrews 11:6 says, '...Without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.' We may pray a long time without any apparent results, but always remember that God's timing is not our timing and His ways are higher than our ways. Remember that God is just and sovereign and rewards those who have faith against all odds.
3. The Prayer of Consecration and Dedication
There are many times in our lives when we come to a crossroads and a decision must be made. Most of the time the right way to go is not clear. The Prayer of Consecration and Dedication is simply the prayer, 'Your will be done God.' In Luke 22:41-42 Jesus says, 'Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.' This is the perfect example of the Prayer of Consecration and Dedication, straight from the expert, Jesus. This prayer is in essence saying that we don't know the correct path to take and asking God to light the way.
4. The Prayer of Praise and Worship
The Prayer of Praise and Worship is just what it sounds like, praise and worship. It is telling God how much you love Him, how great He is, and thanking Him for all of the blessings He has given you. Jesus Himself starts out his personal example of prayer, the Lord's Prayer, by saying, 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.' In life we can get caught up in everything going wrong and so focused on the negative things that we begin to forget everything God has done for us already. It is always time to refocus on God and thank Him for His blessings and mercy and grace. Just remember everything He has done, How he saved us from judgment and turned our live around, and then praise Him for it.
5. The Prayer of Intercession
In the Prayer of Intercession, we are praying for someone other than ourselves, stepping into God's presence and praying hard for them. One definition of the word 'intercession' says, 'The act of intervening on behalf of another.' Interceding is going to God about a situation that is happening to someone and asking Him to act in that person's life. Paul says in Ephesians 1:16, '[I] cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers.'
6. The Prayer of Binding and Loosing
Matthew 18:18-19 says, 'Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.' Here Jesus is explicitly saying that we have power, through Him, to act in the spirit, to bind and loose, to take authority and command with it. This authority was given to us when we were saved and adopted into the Kingdom of God as His children, and we can use it in accordance with God's will to do powerful spiritual warfare, such as binding demonic forces and strongholds at work in peoples lives.
